One of the things I love about social media platforms like Instagram is that it has the ability to bring people together from all over the world. I "met" Sara through Instagram, and it was only in a matter of weeks that I was flying to Chicago to shoot her and her fiance's engagement. And boy, was the experience magical. I spent most of the weekend walking the city streets, and drinking delicious coffee (of course).
I was a little nervous at first about shooting in a city I had never been, with a couple I had never met. I didn't know what the lighting would be like, or where the best city views would be. But after walking around downtown Chicago, it became clear to me that this beautiful city was exploding with beautiful photo backdrops. We started the engagement session at super dreamy bar called the Broken Shaker, which happened to be inside the even cooler hotel I was staying in called The Freehand Chicago. This bar was very darkly lit and had a groovy, eclectic style. They served coco puff infused old fashioneds, and kept the music loud and bumpin' for the guests visiting both near and far.
After a drink or two to shake the nerves, we headed out to the city to grab some photos at sunset.
Michigan Lake was some kind of wonderful, and if i'm honest, when I first got there I mistook it for the ocean! Guys, it's so big!! I guess that's the small town, Oregon girl coming out in me.
Taking Sara & Matt's engagement photos was such a joy. They were the perfect amount of silly and romantic. After, we shared a bottle of wine and dreamed more about their wedding over dinner. I can honestly say I am so thankful for a job that allows me to meet and enjoy people from all over this planet!
